The Call for Nominations for the WGI Contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) is now closed.

Governments and participating observer organisations have nominated experts to serve as Coordinating Lead Authors (CLA), Lead Authors (LA), and Review Editors (RE) of the various chapters of the AR5. The IPCC will review these nominations with the selection of experts being carried out by the Working Group Bureaux and finalised at the next Session of the IPCC Bureau in May 2010. Given the number of individuals that are typically nominated in this process, there is no guarantee that a nominee will be selected for participation.

During its 11th Session (27-28 October 2009), the IPCC Working Group I (WGI) finalized and approved the chapter outline of the WGI contribution to the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). The WGI outline together with those for the other two Working Groups was then accepted by the 31st Session of the IPCC on 29 October 2009 in Bali. The complete WGI AR5 Chapter Outline including additional information on Annex I: Atlas of Global and Regional Climate Projections may be found here.

At the 29th Session of the IPCC (31 August - 4 September 2008), new Working Group I co-chairs were elected to oversee development of the Physical Science Basis volume of the Fifth Assessment Report: Dr. Thomas Stocker of Switzerland and Dr. Dahe Qin of China.

The IPCC Working Group I (WG I) assesses the physical scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change. Its latest report "Climate Change 2007 - The Physical Science Basis" was launched on 2 February 2007 in Paris. The full report is available online and was published by Cambridge University Press in July 2007.
